German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Artists-in-Berlin ProgramDeadline 01/01/2010DescriptionThe Artists-in-Residence Program was initiated in 1963 by the Ford Foundation. In 1965 it was taken over by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) which subsequently opened up an office in Berlin. Each year, approximately 15 to 20 internationally known artists as well as qualified young sculptors, painters, writers and composers from abroad are invited to spend 12 months (6 months in exceptional cases) in Berlin. The grant for filmmakers is limited to a six month stay. Here they have the opportunity to continue their work undisturbed and to participate actively in the cultural life of the city. The aim of this program is to promote the exchange of artists' experience and the concern for current cultural issues in other countries. The program will be responsible for: 1) Monthly grant installments; 2) Travelling expenses; 3) Health and accident insurance; 4) Language courses offered.
