Physics Graduate Degree Program
| Description |
| The Department of Physics offers a graduate program leading to the Ph.D. in physics. The Department offers a complete set of core and advanced graduate courses, and supports a wide variety of research programs in the most dynamic areas of contemporary physics. The central element in the program is research conducted by students under the close supervision of a faculty thesis advisor. Students take a full year of course work in basic areas of physics, classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, and statistical mechanics, and then at least three one-quarter courses in advanced topics. Typically these courses are closely related to the student's research interest, but at least one must be in a different area. |
