Fellowship Stipends via Gaucho Direct Deposit
Eligible graduate students are able to receive fellowship stipends via direct deposit. Stipends, previously disbursed via check through
the Billing Office, can now be received via the electronic deposit of funds directly to a personal checking account using Gaucho Direct Deposit.
To be eligible:
- You must be in good standing and registered in courses for the quarter in which the stipend is awarded;
- Your fees for that quarter must be paid (either by you, your loan funds, your appointment fee remission, or your fellowship);
- Your Billing/Accounts Receivable (BARC) account must not have any past due charges or blocks.
FAQs regarding Gaucho Direct Deposit
Q: How do I enroll in Gaucho Direct Deposit?
A: It’s easy! Starting in Fall 2009, you can enroll online using eRefund: http://www.barc.ucsb.edu/Direct_DepositV3.pdf
Q: How do I know when my stipend has been deposited to my checking account?
A: You will be sent an e-mail to your UMAIL address prior to the settlement of funds in your checking
account. For complete information regarding UMAIL, please see http://www.umail.ucsb.edu/.
Questions about whether funds are available for you to use should be directed to your banking institution.
You will see a fellowship view on the MyBARC website (https://mybarc.ucsb.edu).
This view provides detailed information regarding fellowship stipend payments.
Q: If I have my Teaching Assistantship salary currently deposited directly to my checking account,
should I submit a direct deposit authorization for my fellowship stipend?
A: Yes. Your Teaching Assistantship surepay authorization applies only to appointment earnings.
To enroll in Gaucho Direct Deposit for a fellowship stipend, please enroll online.
If you have already established Gaucho Direct Deposit (for example, in order to receive financial aid
loan funds), you do not need to enroll a second time.
Q: What will happen if I have Gaucho Direct Deposit for my fellowship stipend, however, the
hiring department for my Graduate Student Researcher position has not yet sent the fee remission
credits for the quarter’s fees?
A: If your fees are not paid, your fellowship stipend will be paid by check, available for you to pick up in
the Billing Office. As in the past, you may then choose to pay your fees and have your stipend check
released to you; or, you may choose to ask the BARC office to pay your account balance with your
stipend check and send you the stipend balance via Gaucho Direct Deposit.
Q. What else do I need to know?
- In order to avoid delays you must update your eRefund information immediately if you close or change your bank account.
- It is extremely important that you keep your UMAIL current in order to receive timely deposit notifications.
- Every bank differs when it comes to posting electronic payments. Verify with your bank as to when your funds will be available.
- If you receive a stipend check, you will see that the check stub now has the fellowship information for your records (i.e., fellowship information is no longer on a separate page).
Please see Billing Office website for information and Frequently Asked Questions. Additional questions may be sent to barc.info@barc.ucsb.edu.
