Filing a Master's Thesis
A Thesis represents the culmination of a Master's degree program. Graduate Council has established guidelines for the formatting of theses in order to assure uniformity for manuscripts that are archived in the UCSB Library, as well as to ensure the widest possible dissemination of graduate student research.
Please be sure to consult the formatting requirements before filing your thesis, as well as the Finishing Your Degree site for other possible requirements you are responsible for.
Items Required for Filing
The Following Items are to be brought to the Graduate Division (3rd Floor Cheadle Hall):
- Deliver 2 unbound complete copies of your thesis on 100% cotton bond paper, 20-24 lb. (including 2 original signature pages on 100% cotton bond paper as well)
- One extra copy of your title page and abstract.
- Submit a Master's Form I nominating the members on your committee (if not already completed before filing). Any changes to your committee will need to be noted on a Committee Form I-A.
- If needed, submit to the Graduate Division any permission letters needed for copyrighted material used in your thesis.
Note: To award a Master's degree, your department must notify the Graduate Division in writing of your completion of all degree requirements. Check with the Graduate Program Assistant to ensure that this has been done after you have filed your thesis.
