About Academic Services
The Academic Services section fulfills integral parts of the UCSB Graduate Division mission. We administer graduate standards of scholarship and policy as defined by the University of California and the Graduate Council, a committee of the UCSB Academic Senate.
We encourage the development of students through workshops, training activities, counseling, certificate programs and other initiatives that promote timely degree completion and academic and career success.
The following list exemplifies the regular duties of Academic Services:
- Maintain the academic standards and requirements set forth by the University of California, UCSB Graduate Council and academic departments
- Administer student petitions, including adding or dropping of degrees, leaves of absence, and In Absentia registration
- Monitor student degree progress and provide individual counseling
- Assist with academic appeals and grievances
- Review theses and dissertations for compliance with University policy as stated in the Filing Guide
- Administer the Doctoral Exit Survey, which is required of all graduating doctoral students
- Conduct final degree checks in preparation for the awarding of UCSB graduate degrees
